Find Your Vibe ...

Take Some Time to Relax

Whenever I'm tired I usually post up to my "Relax" playlist on itunes and just chill out.  Consisting of many different genres of music it's usually just what I need to unwind from a stressful day.  Here are some of my favorite tracks from that playlist.

Chris Webby - Best in the Burbs

Chris Webby is one of those artists that has a lot of hype on the blog scene and among college kids but I've generally never been that into him.  His voice is a little wack and it seems that he tries to seem harder on his tracks than is actually believable but his latest mixtape Best in the Burbs is actually pretty solid.  I don't see him turning into one of my favorite artists any time soon but at least now he's made it onto my rotation. Here are some of my favorite tracks and also a link to Download Best in the Burbs.

SonReal - The Lightyear Mixtape and The Stroll

SonReal is an upcoming hip-hop artist out of Vancouver, Canada who's been gaining a good amount of popularity since I first heard of him about 6 months back.  The Stroll was his second EP released in November 2009. It has a really laid back feel to it and showcases his ability to flow smoothly with tight lyrics. Over this past summer he dropped a sick mixtape known as The Lightyear Mixtape in which he goes over a lot of recognizable beats from other artists such as Jay-Z, Asher Roth, and even David Guetta.  The mixtape has a lot of variety in terms of mood and some of the lyrics might be a little lame but its creative and there are plenty of gems.  He also has some music videos to his tracks "I Tried", off The Lightyear Mixtape, and "Who Am I", off The Stroll, which is just dope. SonReal is due to release his next work, entitled "Where's Waldo", on February 28th.  I'll be sure to let you know what's up with that after it drops but in the meantime give the kid a listen for yourself.

Melting Hearts

In honor of Valentine's Day I figured I would put some "love songs" up on the site for everyone to enjoy.  I'm talking about the type of music that you can throw on when it's time to get down to business.  Some of this is definitely not radio friendly and damn sure is not for any type of girl trying to act like she's all "innocent", but if you've got yourself a real girl who doesn't have virgin ears put on these tracks and I guarantee she'll wana get it poppin.  You're Welcome.

So If you Down Wit tha CAUSE dig dis...

Gil Scot Heron, whose-according to Allmusic.com- "unique proto-rap style influenced a generation of hip-hop artists," agreed to a collaboration project months ago with the revolutionary and edgy beat-producing backbone of the XX, Jamie xx. The fruit of their labor is now available for online streaming, and pre-sale continues in anticipation of the release, Feb. 21st. It is a heavy, clean, and unpredictable fusion of blues, soul, and electronic funk. As Brian Griffin said of the Beat era, "With no junk, there is no soul;" in this album, there is junk and soul a plenty.

The Brothers of Chico Dusty

Well Big Boi's latest solo cd, Sir Luscious Left Foot, was no where near the greatness of Outkast albums past, but a producer my the name of "Wick-it" turned it into something worth listening to.  Wick-it the Instigator mashed the album with the Black Key's album Brothers and turned the two into a very smooth mix, featuring beats taken from Brothers and vocals taken from Sir Luscious Left Foot.

Here's one of the better songs from the album:

"Black Bug"

"Under Cover of Darkness" by The Strokes

After 5 long fucking years, The Strokes have finally released some new material. "Under Cover of Darkness" is the new single off their fourth album, Angles. They're from New York, so yes I may be biased, but you're taking your waste of a life to a new level if you don't take a listen to this tune. Listening to music growing up, my favorite bands have always let me down (Green Day, Blink 182, The Offspring, Weezer, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and the list goes on.) The Strokes haven't let me down with this new single and for that, praise the rock n' roll gods. Take a listen. http://www.youtube.com/thestrokes

Real Chill Dubstep

Late nights studying can get extremely boring and absolutely require some good music to keep you in the zone.  Some real laid back dubstep is perfect for this.  These tracks are sure to help you relax and stay focused, all while filling your ears with just enough deep bass to stimulate the mind.

Warning: Make sure you're not sitting too close to anyone else because you will inevitably end up cranking the volume on these sick tracks.

"She Lives in Dreams" — Erik Paul [ ft. Yael Naim ]

Produced by Great White Productions, Erik Paul does a great job flowing over this smooth beat.  The track uses a sample from Yael Naim's cover of Britney Spears' "Toxic", which is nothing like the song you used to see on TRL.  Yeal Naim's version is a melodic, tranquilizing spin on the ultra upbeat original and opens the song up to a completely different interpretation.  Erik Paul's slow verses bring the whole track together and create a song that is perfect to just lay back and unwind to.  Download
